Partition Missing When installing ubuntu

Asked by SHARILL AMREE

I'm using HP netbook wothout CD ROM. When I'm trying to install the ubuntu using USB Flash Disk, I'm selecting to split the existing windows 7 & ubuntu into 2 partitions. Unfortunately when I'm adjusting the partition, I'm realize when booting my existing windows 7 has been missing. I'm completely shocked with the missing data because many imporatant mails & etc has been in the NTFS partition where the windows 7 was. I've decided to hold on the installation of ubuntu due to I'm confident that the missing partition can be recover. Need your assistant to guide me on how to recover missing partition using ubuntu itself thus I can never go to windows 7 anymore.

Thanks but I need to recover the lost NTFS partition. The data on the partition is very important. Of course its my fault for not back up before try to install something new. But I'm pretty sure can recover because I leave the partition by not installing new OS on it...

Windows Missing hal.dll

This is a frequent error seen on Wubi installations. It leaves Windows unable to boot and complains about a missing "C:\windows\system32\hal.dll" which is the Hardware Abstraction Layer for Windows.

This problem can be fixed by using the following steps.

   1.

      Boot-up an Ubuntu LiveCd
   2. On the top taskbar click on the "Places" menu
   3. Select your Windows partition (it will only be shown by its partition size)
   4. Navigate to windows/system32/dllcache
   5. Copy hal.dll from there to windows/system32/
   6. Reboot.

Boot from a windows CD into recovery console, then run chkdsk /r
If you have ubuntu on a flash card you can use that to boot into linux, then you should be able mount the windows partition and backup any important file.
