An .exe file is a Microsoft Windows file.

Linux is not Windows. Windows is not Linux.

SOME Windows files will work under the Linux program called Wine BUT NOT ALL.

You should not need a Windows program to remove Windows malware in Linux.

If you want an antivirus program use a native Linux one like ClamAV.

Hi arochester thanks for your advice is it a free online total protection anti-virus. Another issue is for whatever I want to download the system does not give permission to open & install. Where and how do I give permission, I mean change the command for accept open files and install . Thank you

Angela:

1) Its a program designed for windows, not linux. It cannot be run directly, as stated by arochester. The instructions built into that .exe file assume that windows is executing the instructions, which is not the case here.
2) Linux computers don't need an antivirus, nor does your car (yes its a computer), nor your mobile phone, nor any computer you use that provides a secure method for installing software. Downloading and running unverified software from the internet is a bad idea, and windows is soon to strongly discourage this (from their next version with app centres/stores/whatever).

I would consider attempting to install that program you downloaded from the internet more of a threat than any other action you could perform. You likely downloaded it from an http site, with no verification of the author -- theoretically there is nothing to stop an attacker supplying you with malicious code purporting to be "protection".

3) Verified software is fine. You can freely install software from the software repositories (software centre) and not worry about viruses at all. Each program that is installed is checked against a digital signature during installation. If the digital signature does not match, the software cannot be installed.

If you are still concerned, you can install clamTK as suggested by Arochester. However I will reiterate that attempting to run an .exe file you downloaded from the internet is the most insecure action you could perform on your computer.

Hello mycae, thanks for your advice. Guess what! I tried to install clamTK and it didn't work. Do you mean I don't need antivirus for ubuntu system? this ubuntu is knew for me I didn't know about this system. It is a second hand laptop. I would like to know where do I go to remove programs and what not. Thank you...

>Do you mean I don't need antivirus for ubuntu system?
Provided you stick to the software offered by the software repositories (software centre) yes, you do not need an antivirus. Each package is manually checked and digitally signed before being uploaded to the server.

>I tried to install clamTK and it didn't work.
Did anything in particular go wrong? How did you install it -- if needed we can try to troubleshoot this.

>I would like to know where do I go to remove programs and what not.
The basic user interface (UI) is the "software centre" -- this allows you to install and remove programs. The more advanced one (and more powerful) is the "synaptic" package manager, which is in the system menu.

All of these programs are ease-of-use systems over the underlying program set "apt", or "Advanced Packaging Tool"
