Global menu like gnome shell?

Asked by Andrey Alfaro Alvarado

Hi.

Wingpanel looks so cool but there is something that i miss, the global menu on buntu is maybe the only thing that i really would like to have on pantheon, but i like pantheon and the elementary philosophy.

Anyway i've seen that gnome shell has added a global menu without using the top panel, they use a menu like an indicator on the panel, it looks great and the same time is not using the global menu on the top panel like in unity or gnome 2.

What to think about add an global menu like gnome's?
could solve the ugly menu of the non-elementary apps that appear on the top of the app.

I guess you already have the same thing with elementary except the menu is attached to an appmenu icon at the right of the application main toolbar. This is a much more elegant solution imho.

Yeah i agree!

But what happened with the non-elementary apps?

Is not possible add the elementary style appmenu for the rest (hundreds) of apps that always uses global menu in gnome, unity and others.

My idea is just use the global menu that the app support and use it in other way with the elemantary UI and style!

With this method the ugly menu on the top of the non-elementary apps will disappears and of course will looks better that a list of menu over the app.

I believe there is a plan for a GTK3 window decorator. It would then be possible to add a "menu button" widget inside the window title bar (for both elementary menu or global menu)...
