I recommend getting http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ and downloading the normal cd image to put on your thumb drive. It will cause less headaches.

I was getting the same error trying to write to a flash drive I had previously configured (using another tool) to be a Windows XP install image. Formatting the drive fixed my problem. YMMV.

Forgive me, but how would Michael H. "format the drive"? (I'm getting a similar msg when I try to write after downloading to the flash drive, mine being an Error 8, unable to lock drive.)

My Computer -> Right click on USB drive -> Format

I'd recommend restoring device defaults and using quick format.

Thanks, Michael. I'm a REAL newbie, so I figured out this aftn that I
caused my own problem, trying to write FROM e:// thumbdrive TO same
e://thumbdrive. Technical directions weren't the clearest to this muddy
mind.

Just downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 NR onto my new Acer Aspire One. We're almost
off the MS grid!!
