Can data be recovered from a Disk ImageWriter operation?

Asked by Joel

I accidentally selected the wrong disk drive for a disk imaging operation. Is the data lost or is there software or a service that can recover the data?

It depends on the data, the filesystem, and how much of the drive was overwritten. W32DI writes raw data starting from sector 0 of the device. If you caught it early, if you are lucky the only data that was overwritten was the partition table, which can be easily rebuilt (depending on the tools and/or OS you use). If more was overwritten, then there are scanner tools that can piece together data (usually images).

It was a FAT32 File System on the WIN 10 OS.
W32DI Completed the operation without intervention.

I downloaded the limited free versions of OnTrack & EaseUS and ran scans on the disk.
Both only indicated the files that were imaged by W32DI.

Disk image is a copy of the entire contents of a storage drive/system. The disk image represents the content just the way it appears on the original drive, including both data and structure information. The Disk Image Backup in IDrive helps to recover from an OS crash within minutes. All you need to do is run the bootable recovery environment and select the hard disk for restore to create the partition similar to the original computer partitions and restore the operating system backup as it was earlier, via disk image. https://get-shareit.com

You can easily restore the disk image data backed up from one computer to another computer (with dissimilar hardware). Prerequisites: A USB bootable flash drive to boot your computer. You can download and double-click the WinRE ISO file, mount it, and copy the entire content to a USB bootable flash drive. https://jiofilocalhtml.run https://forpc.onl

ISO file, right click on it, and burn it via your CD/DVD drive using the Windows Disc Image Burner application. Using R-Drive Image, you can completely and rapidly restore your system after heavy data loss caused by an operating system crash, virus attack or hardware failure.
