PNY 2GB SD does not work w/ Win32DiskImager

Asked by Ray Mack

Hey y'all:
This is just a warning rather than a real question. I bought a couple of PNY 2GB cards at WalMart because I needed some until we got our manufacturing stock of real industrial grade 2GB cards. I kept reading images off the cards in Win32DiskImager and got 4GB files. It drove me nuts until I just read the back of the cards. Obviously, PNY was out of 2GB die and just used 4GB cards and formatted and sold them as 2 GB cards.
So in case you get bug reports or other questions, you now have some additional info. It is the card and not your software!!

P.S. Is there any interest in having an option to read or write less than a full card in future releases?

Interesting (and kind of cool) on the 2G/4G cards. As you know, my utility reads from the raw device level, not the filesystem level (which is how you picked this up).

As to your inquiry on partial reads, there is already code in the tree for it. It will (hopefully) be released before end of the year.

Thanks for the response and the heads up on the new functionality coming.

Also, thanks very much for putting in the effort to do the tool. We use it extensively.
