fixing a usbstick by cloning ?

Asked by XRulescu

Hi there,

I was in the process of writing an image to a 4Gb usbstick, unfortunately my system crashed sometime during the process. I wasn`t near the system when this happened and I don`t know exactly when.

My problem now is that my usbstick is unusable... windows 8.1 see it and assign a letter to it but can`t access it, in Explorer is listed as "Removable Disk (F:)".

I have another identical drive so I was trying to clone the good one on the bad one. So I`ve made an image of the good one but then I try to write it to the bad one I get the following error message: "An error occurend when attemting to get the drive's geometry. Error 1: Incorrect function."

Any ideas how to fix this ?

thank you

Hi
I´m not a expert but it seems that you have a geometry.dll error.
Normally they occur with hardware failure; corrupt Geometry.dll ....
Try it with two different USB pen, if the same error occur then the problem is from windowns.

nope. tried on multiple systems with Win7 and Win8.1 same thing, so it`s not a Windows problem.

His point was that you need to try different sticks, not different windows versions. If the hardware (stick) is bad, other sticks will work on that system.

The fact that you tried the stick on different machines, and none of them worked, points to the stick having a problem....
