Export Controls Enquiry

Asked by Andrew Wilson

Hello, we are currently trying to assess Win32 Disk Imager against US and EU export controls in order to determine any potential export control licensing requirements.

The regulations we are reviewing your product against are found here for the US:

http://www.bis.doc.gov/policiesandregulations/ear/

and here for the UK:

https://www.gov.uk/uk-strategic-export-control-lists-the-consolidated-list-of-strategic-military-and-dual-use-items

We were wondering if you had previously classified the product against either of these control list and if you have, can you please advise us of the corresponding Export Control Classification Number (if any).

If you have not, can you please advise whether the product uses cryptography in any form please and if it does can you please detail how it is used?

Many thanks as I appreciate this is quite an unusual request.

Andy

There is absolutely no cryptographic code in this program. The way it works is it does a binary read/write of a file and a removable storage device (SD/CF/USB).

Since this is a fully open-source project, the code is open for your review. It uses only open source tools to build and ships with open source libraries freely available from other projects (QT, MinGW).
