I had also the same problem, from 8GB to 250MB,
But i fixed it. I used the tool called BOOTICE, you can download it @ http://www.pendriveapps.com/goto/Download_BOOTICE_exe/5670/1

plug you pendrive, open up BOOTICE.exe, select your pendrive in the Dropdown menu, click Parts Manager -> Reformat USB Disk ->Next -> Select Fat32 -> ok...

the program would not respond in a few moments, and would display a confirmation message that the formatting was complete.

hope this helps. ^_^

Thanks FallenMemories. I used HPU_v2.2.3.exe (can't remember where I found it). It did work. I hope I can get Chrome OS to work some time. So far I just keep downloading, burning to stick, failing to boot notebook, and reformatting USB stick! Will be worth it in the end I'm sure!

Mike (michael-arroyave) said : #7

Done, restarting the PC did it... but don't know which one of the programs you listed, thanks!

FallenMemories (slytherin9090) said : #8

a program is locking your flash drive.. that's the problem.. so restarting it is the answer..

You can repair the usb volume with windows tools:

in dos cmd (run as administrator) type this commands:

diskpart
list vol
sel vol X (where X is the volume you want restore)
clean
create primary partition
sel part 1
format fs=FAT32 quick (or NTFS if you need that)
assign
exit

Now your usb is clean.
