Updating text catalogs

Asked by Angelo Locritani on 2011-12-30

Does a script that update the .pot files and them "merge" it with existing .po files exists?
Or, in other words, how you update catalogs after changing typos or adding new translatable strings to the code?

If such a script exists, would be nice to call it before committing any change that makes the catalogs stale.

$ cd <widelands_base_dir> && ./utils/buildcat.py

This script generates the catalogs (.pot) out of the sources.

There is no way of merging anything, this script generates them as is.

Merging the translations (.po) with the templates is done via

$ cd <widelands_build_dir> && make lang.

However, changed template strings will result in untranslated strings.

Jens is correct with utils/buildcat.py. I prefer to update catalogues in another commit though (and especially not in a pull request) because it makes reading diffs a little more difficult.

The merging with the existing translations is done by launchpad and their translation tool. They provide the changed .po files in another branch (~sirver/widelands/translations) which we merge occassionaly into trunk to get the newest translations.
