Policy of bug statuses: When to use which status?

Asked by Raul Ferriz

What is the policy to assign status to bugs?

I see some bugs marked with "Fix Commited" and really the bug is not fixed on trunk or elsewhere.
Also these bugs are not linked with a branch that fixes that bug.

At least the newer bugreports (do not know about the imported ones from sourceforge) should be fixed in trunk (and build15) if the bug tracker lists them as "Fix commited".
Anyway the more important question really is:

"What is the policy to assign status to bugs?"

As far as I can see, bugs are still listed as open, if they are set to "Fix commited". So should they be set to "Fix released" instead?

Obviously "Fix Released" is the status for "nothing to do anymore" - only after settign the bugs to that status they are marked as closed and do not show up on "bugs assigned to me"

I think "Fix released" is for fixes in special branches not yet merged.

The official policy is the following:

- Incomplete: Bug is missing information or discussion before it can be categorized
- Invalid: Doesn't belong to widelands.
- Won't fixed: Won't fixed for some reason
- Confirmed: The bug can be reproduced. No idea how to solve this yet.
- Triaged: A comment should be added that describes were or how this can be fixed. Work on the bug can start immediately.
- In progress: Someone is working on this **or** the fix is committed in another branch then trunk.
- Fix committed: Fix is in trunk
- Fix released: Fix is in a released build or build candidate. A note should be added that states the package that contains the fix.

Re:official policy
The comment here (https://bugs.launchpad.net/widelands/+bug/669918/comments/2) on Opinion agrees with Ubuntu's description of bug status (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status). If I understand correctly, Opinion should no longer be used for Widelands bugs, and should instead be marked as Incomplete when a discussion is needed? Should older bugs be converted as well?

P.S. Posting here instead of creating a new question, to keep the information in one place.

The only problem is that opinion no longer shows in open bugs. This suckz....

Actually, the original idea was to keep using opinion when discussion is needed. But being the only project doing so is also no solution. So let's change to the official policy.

I suggest changing opinion -> incomplete where appropriate but always adding a comment with a link to this question.

Can you help with this problem?
