I've compared the daily PPA with a self-compiled version on Ubuntu Precise, and I see the same difference.
$ ls -la /usr/share/games/widelands/fonts/ total 12 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Apr 5 04:53 . drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Apr 5 04:53 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 45 Apr 4 16:37 FreeSans.ttf -> ../../../fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeSans.ttf lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 46 Apr 4 16:37 FreeSerif.ttf -> ../../../fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeSerif.ttf drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 5 04:52 Widelands
I'm curious why the fonts try to link to system fonts and whether this is expected behaviour. Looks like the Widelands font (which would not be found on the system) is installed.
