Wicd on Retropie hangs up on "verifying authentication" WPA2 encryption

So for the past 2 months I've tried to connect to my WiFi with no success.
Connection strength is above 80%. I know the password is correct. My network is using WPA2 encryption. I've installed my TP-link driver (up to date) and I've even tried a different WiFi Dongle with zero luck.
I've tried getting an answer on 2 other forums but still nothing.

1) open up wicd
2) Highlight SSID and Connect to it
3) Looking at the status at the bottom of the page and waiting for "Verifying Authentication" to finish
4) Status says "Not Connected"

I'm hoping you guys could help an amateur out.
