Moon phase functionality, plugin architecture

Asked by bitu-derr

Is there any chance this new indicator will feature the functionality of the existing glunarclock-applet found in the regular repo (at least for Lucid, haven't checked Maverick or Natty)?

This applet currently shows the current moonphase in the panel (except, apparently, in the Orta theme, where it seems to not work), and when clicked opens a standalone application window with more detailed moon phase info. I've always wished this was combined in the the Gnome weather applet, to take up one less spot on the panel.

Maybe the weather indicator could (or does it?) use a plugin architecture for things like this?

Interesting idea, yet moon phase can be displayed only at night with clear weather. In this case, Weather Indicator may show moon phase icon. In other cases, another icon should be added, which will confuse users.
However, moon phase info menu item can be added - though no plugin functionality available now.
Please, post a wishlish bug for moon phase info.
