Multiplayer coop against computer?

Is it possible to have a couple humans play against multiple computer opponents as was possible in the original game?

I'm just teaching my son the basic of RTS games and would like to be on the same side for a while.

Yes, before start game you can choose number of players and in game (f10 menu --> options --> diplomacy) you can select which computer/player will be against or with you.
