Also, how can I get hold of that test Wallch 3.0 that has XFCE as an option?

Thanks!

Hello jimwg, although we have released some 3+ versions of Wallch which are thought to be a taste of what Wallch 4.0 will look like, I am afraid that we cannot release a 'beta' Wallch 4.0. That is because we are discussing about several issues that are to be changed both at the interface and the functionality of the program.

We are thinking about making diffferent versions for different DEs and not to combine all the DEs in one single version (due to the many changes that each DE has (the command to change the current wallpaper differs from DE to DE as well as the command to find which is the current DE and options like how the image should be displayed or the color and gradient (background color) behavior)). Also, Wallch would run more efficiently and with less dependencies than needed now in each of the different systems.

As for now, you can test the Wallch 3+ ppa which has the 'Set Custom Command' dialog making it capable of running in many different DEs, including XFCE. But, as you may have already understood, what you see there is far from what Wallch will finally look like.

You can find the PPA here: https://launchpad.net/~wallch/+archive/3+

Thanks for the interest!

Thanks Alexsol!

Got the 3+beta. One unique virtue it has is Wallch can sequence a mass of images by number or alphabetic to display, but when you log off and come back it's scrambled again. If you already don't have it in mind, it'd be great If it preserved sequences on a kind of Crebs list. Another cherry on top -- though that might be left to a third party plug-in to break up the work - is to have an auto list option by number or alpha. Another goodie might be reducing image switch times to two seconds for some neat animation effects instead of one creating animated Gifs to do such.

Keep up the great work!

Addition to above. Using BleachBit also erases any sequential order.
