How are entries added to application menu?

Asked by klap-in

I installed MS Office 2007 in its own bottle by Vineyard. This installs wel. (After clicking Finish of the installer the installers ends, but vineyard tells the installer did not exit cleanly. But this messages appears more often when closing stuff, i haven't clear when exactly.)

Now i have in 'Programs' menu of 'Windows Applications' starters for the office programs, so far so good. Try to 'Run' these starters don't work btw, but when i browse to the right shortcut and start winword.exe works fine.

More annoying is that i miss starters in the 'Application'-menu. Has Vineyard a mechanism to add entries to the applicationmenu when a program is installed, or is that something i should do myself?

I installed also Spotify. Also in own bottle. Here appears also no starters.

Just to be sure:
You are asking why vineyard does not create a menu-item when you use the vineyard launcher or install a application in a by vineyard created prefix?

I have tested this myself and the same thing happens, so this my be a bug. I have however no proof yet. I will continue trying for now.

This is how VIneyard handles things to avoid having programs suddenly set themselves up as the preferred program for file-types and such - it will be made more obvious that this is intentional and what you can do about it later.

Right now, what you can do is go to the Programs tab in vineyard-preferences, right click the program you want to show up in the menu, select "Edit", make sure the "Show in menu" check box is toggled, click "Ok" and then "Apply".

In the future Vineyard will ask you which menu items you want shown after an installer has finished.

Can you help with this problem?
