I added vineyard ppa to the software sources but it doesn`t appear in synaptic

If you are running Karmic, you need to change the source so it says lucid instead of karmic.
Vineyard works just fine in Karmic, so don't worry about that.

Vineyard is available for lucid, maverick, karmic and natty, so I think it's safe to assume that this question is no longer an issue.
