Troubleshooting fetch quote fails

Asked by Greg Brewton

Is there a way to isolate the problem when fetching a quote fails?

I'm told that I must be looking for something obscure, yet I'm fairly sure that I'm not. That being said, I'd like to find a way to pinpoint the particular person whom Variety is having a problem with, then I could try to solve that problem. That would be nice. It's hard to solve a problem without a clear definition (not that you ever have to deal with that).

What exactly is your question, please be more specific? If there has been previous context or communication between us, please include or summarize it in the question.

In general - if you think Variety behaves buggy in some situation and you want to debug it yourself, the place to start is its code - "bzr branch lp:variety", once you have dependencies installed (you have them if Variety has run on your machine already), you can then run bin/variety inside the source tree. Code is in Python, quotes are handled in QuotesEngine and the various QuoteSources.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Greg Brewton for more information if necessary.
