slow changing wallpaper freezing

Hi,
I'm using the latest Variety version on i5 Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x64, and regardless of which settings I adjust, the changing of the wallpaper takes about 10 seconds lagging the photo and freezing the system for that time. It's becoming really annoying, and since I love Variety, I'd like it solved.

Integrated Intel graphics with unused AMD Radeon 9.

Any solutions?

What happens when you change wallpapers from Ubuntu's Appearance settings (not from Variety)?

No problem there, instant change.
Plus, changing through Variety is the same whether it's my own wallpapers or online.

Do you have any turned on filters in the Effects tab of Variety?
What happens if you run "~/.config/variety/scripts/set_wallpaper <ABSOLUTE_PATH_TO_SOME_IMAGE>" directly?

No, effects off. Tried turning on, didn't help either.
Wallpapers open fine.
