already have unity, install unity from source

I already have Unity, because I installed Ubuntu 11.10. What happens if I install unity from source now?

I want to follow the instructions at http://pastebin.com/hLsFdc2R, but I'm afraid of breaking something.

Since those instructions will install everything in /opt/unity, it won't overwrite any (pre-)installed files.

Can you help with this problem?
