How do I remove icons from unity's launcher?

Asked by Juan Montoya

The launcher on the left side on Unity has icons that I want to remove.
How do I get rid of the Trash can, Documents, Applications and Desktop switcher and how do I prevent mounted filesystems from appearing as icons on the launcher?

Currently that is not possible, but it is planned to be in future releases of Unity.

For the mounted filesystems: doesn't the following command work in Ubuntu 11.10 too? (It should also work in Ubuntu 11.04.)

gesettings set com.canonical.Unity.Devices devices-option Never

Thanks! This worked quickly and as expected!
I wish there was a way to remove the other icons as well.

Actually, the command was gsettings, not gesettings ^_^
