Drag and drop across applications

How do I drag and drop e.g. a media file from Nautilus (fullscreen) to media player Totem?

I would love to DRAG, ALT-TAB, DROP, is it possible? Cheers

You can always Drag-Drop an item/file on the Unity Launcher to open the item/file.

Actually the specific use case in question is to add the media resource to the Totem playlist, i.e. drop the dragged items within a dedicated area of another application.

Hmmm, it seems the major flaw.
Dragging the item to the Unity Launcher and keeping it on that icon brings that app to focus and the as app is at focus the item is dragged back onto the focused app, but now that item can't be added (or interact) to the app.
