Multiple Screens and Unity interface on the desktop

Asked by James Clemence

Just a brief question, with the move to the unity shell on the desktop in Natty, how is this likely to respond to the multi-monitor paradigm?

People have large screen real estate, which while the current unity shell uses effectively on a small screen (where multiple windows open next to eachother are impossible). However, when I have two 24 inch monitors, maximised screens with no ability to copy and paste side by side will be a real pain.

In addition, how are two monitors dealt with in the unity shell layout?

Thanks,

J

Also with Unity and multiple monitors (or even one large monitor), the global menu causes a headache to reach a menu for a window far away from the absolute top left of the main screen. I often have to lift the mouse (or finger on the touchpad) and re-position, and move again at least one time if not more, to get to the menu, and then the same steps to bet back to the original window. If I have to access the menu a few times in a row, I must repeat this often, or move the window, preform my tasks and move it back. I understand the reasoning that it will seem easier and faster after conditioning to it, but as for any users with a large area to work with, it potentially takes up to four times longer to accomplish simple tasks. And that's if you're just accessing the menu one time.
