How do you uninstall unity?

Asked by Michael

I added the repository (in 10.04) and apt-get install unity. Now I don't know how to revert back. I have tried apt-get remove unity but when I reboot it just comes up with an off-white screen and the mouse cursor.

In GDM select another session than Unity, think that's it.

Alternatively, when you are at the login screen, enter/select your username. Before you enter the password, look at the bottom of your screen and you will notice a dropdown titled "Sessions:". Select the option you would like to start up in. NOT the Ubuntu Unity Netbook Edition.

Ok I was able to change sessions (while battling with bug #578585) and then apt-get uninstall unity. There is the issue now that I still have the option to switch to the Ubuntu Unity Netbook Edition, which doesn't actually work. How can I get rid of that?

sudo apt-get purge ubuntu-netbook-unity-default-settings.

Can you help with this problem?
