2-Step Verification with GMail IMAP

Asked by Cheenu

Entered my gmail username/password (for imap.gmail.com:993), and got

Failed to connect to mail account. The returned error was:
'[AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)'

I do have 2-factor auth setup for my gmail - is that causing this?

Yes.

You should be able to add an application password to a specific device:

1. Log in to your Google account and go to the Sign-in & Security page
2. Scroll down to App passwords and click it
3. Click Select app, and then Other from the list
4. Enter Unity Mail and click Generate
5. Copy the app password and click Done
6. Go back to Unity Mail and paste the app password
