Requirements to use...

Asked by krispy

I am attempting to use on an old Vaio with a Japanese version of XP. I loaded this and pclinuxos iso file into a partition. Apparently it does not like this language and fails on the extraction phase on many files with an error box from sevnz.exe. (Something about /Device/Harddisk1/DR3 Can't read the rest, it's in Japanese.) Does this software support this or am I doing something wrong?...

I usually get that error when I select under "Drive" the drive letter of a memory card that hasn't been inserted, rather than the USB drive (Memory cards are also detected, since they are both listed as "Removable Device" under Windows); or if you were attempting to just load the image from the hard drive and not trying to make a USB drive, change the install mode (specified under "Type") to "Hard Disk" (I changed the default to USB drive installation mode in the latest version). Make sure that the drive letter you have selected to install to is indeed your USB drive. Otherwise, if it's related to the Japanese filepaths (which should technically be supported, since I'm using Unicode throughout the application), try running as a user with a name composed of only standard ASCII characters, and place all the files in a path containing only ASCII characters.

Thank you very much. That was my fault. I viewed the setup screen wrong. I was thinking the dropdowns at the bottom were part of the custom section and did not use them. It now works fine. I am having other problems, but I believe they are distro related, so I'll try some of the ones you have built-in to the menu and see if any of them will work...
