Do I need to enter some "space to preserve files across reboots" please?

Do I need to enter some "space to preserve files across reboots..." please?
And if so, how much? Is this for user created files like own docs or files needed for Lubunto / Ubunto?

Sorry this is my first attempt to get Linux.

I'm hoping to create a Lubunto USB & instillation CD to initially boot off it then hopefully install onto hard drive.
