LiveUSB: Missing operating system says Samsung N110

Asked by mixmac

Hi there!

I prepared a LiveUSB key with Unetbootin 5.8.3 for Mac using the ubuntu-12.04.2-desktop-i386.iso file I downloaded before. The USB key seems to be OK:

I wish to install Ubuntu on a Samsumg N110 notebook wich currently runs on WinXP. I modified BIOS setup to boot on the USB key.

Each time I start the computer, I get the same message:

Missing operating system
Operating system not found

Do you have any clue to help me find how to boot on the USB key?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Dear mixmac,

You said you are using WinXP. Then you have a best option.
1. Use "Linux Live Usb Creator" for windows. Get it from: http://www.linuxliveusb.com/en/download.

IMPORTANT: Before creating LiveUSB, format it from windows explorer(FAT32). Remove all partition if you have any.
Once you have usb-creator.exe, run it and follow the same steps as described for Linux (point it at your .iso file or your Ubuntu CD-ROM, point it at your USB flash drive, make sure you have the right device selected, then "Make Startup Disk").

It should help your problem. Feel free to ask again if you again encounter the problem

Hi Chidananda!

Your advice was perfectly sound. The linuxlivesub did the trick. Ubuntu 12.0.4 is now running on my friend's Samsung N110.

Thanks a lot :-)
