USB key doesn't boot: "SYSLINUX (...) Peter Anvin et Al"

Asked by milsabor

Hi,
After having successfully used unetbootin to create a install USB key, I try it on my laptop (sony vpc-z13a7 64 bits), the install process freezes right at the beginning (on the line : SYSLINUX (...) Peter Anvin et Al).
It happens for both windows and Linux versions of unetbootin, and for the Ubuntu 11.04 and Debian Squeeze distributions, no matter if I choose an ISO file or if I choose in the list of available distributions.

Let me be clear, the freeze happens during the installation, not during the unetbootin process, sorry if this is not the right place for my question.

Thanks,

Etienne

Please provide full error message. It makes easier to find data about error.
SYSLINUX is the USB key bootloader. It probably failed to find a correct boot image file.
Please check first the downloaded ISO image: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
After check USB key (command for CD works also with USB key): https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck
You could also have an issue with motherboard USB boot, even if it's more seldom. You could try to boot from CD if it is possible.

Can you help with this problem?
