Tile downloader problem attempting to download map

Hi, ive tried to download with tile downloader map of three countries from as described without success,with a zoom of 13 and17 .
googling i've found a communication in a wiki of OSM beware that since september 2016 tiledownloader isn't working no more and the alternative program osm downloader Launcher from command line is terribly slow.
There are alternative programs or maps (eg. Mboxtiles) for offline navigation compatible instead of Osm tiles?

Please, avoid so big areas, that is a so heavy load for the tiles server.
Try cities or small regions with zooms I say in the help.
With small regions you will not have the issue of speed.

Is it possible to use ln -s to save tilles on sd card ?

What worked for me was to use Maperitive and a decent data download of the desired region to render the tiles myself. Try it, is not hard and you can fine-tune the tiles ruleset as desired...
