gvs in xnoremap? Y U NO gv?

funny memes aside, why is there gvs the end of the xnoremap at https://github.com/SirVer/ultisnips/blob/master/plugin/UltiSnips.vim#L184 ?
shouldn't gv be enough? my texts gets deleted when I accidentally hit tab in visual mode, but maybe there's a reason behind this?

This is a feature. The next snippet you expand will get the text deleted inserted in the place of ${VISUAL}. Search for VISUAL in the documentation and/or watch http://www.sirver.net/blog/2012/02/05/third-episode-of-ultisnips-screencast/
