A better name?

Asked by Viper550

I'm just wondering, have you ever thought of giving this project a better name? I think this project could use its own distinct identity/community/etc.

We've been working on this since day one. UGR/Ubuntu GNOME Remix was intended to be a temporary name. We wanted to use the name Gubuntu, but ran into trademark issues with Canonical. We currently have a poll open, and lots of discussion has taken place.

I’m wondering if by using names like “Gubuntu” you don’t violate Canonical’s trademark policies, as you do with the name “Ubuntu Gnome Remix”...

That would be trademark dilution, since it contains "ubuntu" and may be confused by "a moron in a hurry" (yes, there's actual case law for trademark infringement in the Commonwealth that uses that as a term) for an official version.

Can you help with this problem?
