Will Gubuntu provide more compact themes/widgets?

Asked by aproposnix

One of the issues i have always had with Gnome is the fact that the themes and widgets look as if they were made from a cartoon. For example, the status bar (showing the progress of a file transfer as an example), is always VERY thick. Buttons are immensely big (even on an HD monitor with high resolution).

I think Gubuntu (sorry, I just prefer the name over UGR) should provide a more streamlined approach to the GUI perhaps on par with Elementary.

I am not proposing that the Gubuntu team create themes from scratch, rather I believe it would be great if you could modify the standard themes that come with Ubuntu to be more compact. Ambiance should be the first to be compacted.

Are there plans for this in the Gubuntu project?

We do plan to fix the theming problems. Could you help with themes?

Gnome 3 has it's own theme set. We plan to utilize these themes. If there are actual usability problems, please point these out to us.

Thanks for the feedback. Sadly I'm not a graphic designer though I could help with mockups.

Gnome3 themes suffer from the same issue as far as I can tell.

Hopefully, someone with the skill will eventually provide alternative compact themes. I just thought it would benefit the distro.

GNOME 3 themes are a bit different from GNOME 2. Also, the theme settings is sometimes missing.

Yes, UGR plans to streamline the theming of GNOME3

Can you help with this problem?
