On Xubuntu-14.04.1 and Lubuntu-14.04.1, installing Evolution with Synaptic under the UCK Customization Console causes the host system to exit

Asked by Len E.

(I originally experienced this error with the original Xubuntu 14.04 and
Lubuntu 14.04. The problem persists with the respective first point
releases, Xubuntu 14.04.1 and Lubuntu 14.04.1).

With both distributions, the procedure to replicate the problem is as
follows:

-After initial distro installation, use Synaptic to install Uck-2.4.7
(Xubuntu requires Synaptic to be installed first from the command
line, sudo apt-get install synaptic: Synaptic is pre-installed in Lubuntu).

-Uck will not start from the System menu item present after installation.
The terminal command uck-gui --wait-before-exit is required.

-Under Xubuntu, the source iso was Xubuntu; under Lubuntu, the source iso was Lubuntu
-In the normal setup dialog, I've specified 6 language packs, en, fi, fr, ja, zh-hans and zh-hant
-for desktops, I've specified others, no GNOME, KDE or Unity
-I've chosen yes for manual updates, no for the omission of windows-related modules,
and yes to create a hybrid iso
-After the lengthy initial setup phase, I run the uck-customization console, and,
-for Xubuntu only, apt-get install synaptic,
-then, under Synaptic, specify the installation of evolution-mapi, the exchange
server add-on, which brings in all the standard evolution components.
-the install seems to proceed almost to completion, the last step being
menu updates, and then suddenly the whole system quits, presenting a
     new login prompt.

-The error message in the last line of the /home/user/tmp/build.log file is
Lubuntu ---> lxterminal: Fatal I/O error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
   Xubuntu ---> xfce-terminal: Fatal I/O error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.

Ladies/Gentlemen:

I posed the question originally because I can't
come up with a solution myself.

Will anyone be assigned to investigate the problem ??

I can confirm this is happening on Lubuntu and Xubuntu and is 100% repeatable:

Step by step reproduction:

1) install Xubuntu or Lubuntu
2) install UCK
3) build distribution using your Xubuntu or Lubuntu ISO as source
4) when asked enter console to modify the distribution
5) apt-get install evolution

=> X server on host terminates on host:
build.log:
xfce4-terminal: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.

~/tmp/remaster-root/var/log/apt/term.log: no errors recorded
~/tmp/remaster-root/var/log/dpkg.log: no errors recorded

Xorg.1.log of the host system only shows a "Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file." ...

... out of ideas what might be causing it myself...

I have just completed this same installation attempt on Ubuntu Mate 14.04.1, with the
same result. Some preliminary steps were required before attempting to invoke UCK:
     i) apt-get install synaptic (like Xubuntu, synaptic is not preinstalled).
ii) install UCK (2.4.7) from synaptic
iii) install xterm from synaptic (UCK won't start from the menu without it).
iv) as per Bug Report #1152993 of 2013-03-09, edit the file
          /usr/lib/uck/customization-profiles/localized_cd/customize,
change the explicit "gnome-terminal" reference to "mate-terminal".

UCK proceeded as usual, with the same abnormal termination when trying to install
evolution-mapi.

The last line in the /home/user/tmp/build.log file is:
mate-terminal: Fatal I/O error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on Xserver :0.0.

I have a theory that the culprit is the sa-compile package in Evolution. Starting,
I believe, with Ubuntu 13.10, sa-compile in evolution is a separate package from
spamassassin; previously it was embedded in spamassassin. With this change,
sa-compile, when being installed, seems to attempt to generate some default
scripts for spamassassin, and in so doing, causes UCK to terminate.
(I have no idea how this idea could be verified).

I have just run the same Uck sequence on Xubuntu 14.04.2 which I downloaded yesteday;
the same error resulted.

Christian: Since my last post on the subject problem
two days ago, I've tried a few more things, with
  one interesting result today.

On the Xubuntu-14.04.2 host distro, I used the
  Lubuntu-14.04.2 iso for remastering purposes,
and I installed uck_2.4.6 in place of the
  more recent uck_2.4.7.

The evolution install failed in the same way,
but with a radically-different error message,
as included in the attached document.

Hope this might shed some new light on the
  problem.
