UCK package manager doesn't load all available packages.

Asked by Len E.

When trying to use uck 2.4.x to customize the Ubuntu 11.04 desktop, and
alternatively the Ubuntu 10.04.4 desktop, the process starts normally,
but when the stage is reached to start the package manager (Synaptic),
it only accesses about 7200 packages from the total available of about
31000 packages. For the Ubuntu 11.04 customization, the resident distro
was Ubuntu 11.04; for the Ubuntu 10.04.4 customization, the resident
distro was Ubuntu 10.04.4. Each of uck 2.4.4, uck 2.4.5, and 2.4.6 were
used alternatively for the customization, all with the same results.
I've had no such problems with Xubuntu 11.10 using uck 2.4.5, or
with Xubuntu 12.04 using uck 2.4.6. What's wrong ?????

With some hints from the web, I've just found a work-around for the problem:
-the etc/apt/sources.list file from the standard Ubuntu 10.04.4 and 11.04 distributions
were compared with the corresponding files used within UCK. The UCK versions had
the access to the Universe and Multiverse repositories commented out. Fortunately,
the Gedit editor can be invoked from within the UCK console session. By simply
uncommenting the lines accessing the Universe and Multiverse repositories,
and then doing a package reload in the UCK package manager, normal package
 access was restored
