With a very high probability the ISO image you are trying to use is broken (incomplete or corrupted).

Try downloading another copy.

I don't think this is the problem: I've got the same problem, and I downloaded many copies of ISO. The answer was always the same thing: are "Breezy Badger", "Oniric Ocelot", "Natty Narwhal", and "Hardy Heron" incomplete or corrupted?

The way to check whether the iso images you downloaded are corrupt or not is to verify the md5 and/or sha1 checksums for the image. You should find them at the same place you found the ISO images.

and yes: I've seen mirrors - especially "transparent" ones maintained by cheap internet providers - that would corrupt large (i.e. >300MB) images regularly due to limitations they had with their uplink...

With so many people having same problem with so many versions/attempts, I highly doubt it is the corrupted ISO image.

It shows clearly that the ISO is mounted fine, the SquashFS image unpacked fine. I doubt it has something to do with the unpacked media, not the ISO itself.

Your comment is not helpful:

1) Regarding downloads causing the type of problem described:
- I've seen plenty of cases, where downloading/copying damaged the image.
- I've yet to see a single instance where the checksum was ok and the extraction failed.
- There is some indication that most users can download ISO's and use them without
problems, whereas a tiny minority seems to consistently have problems - your
statement that many people are having troubles is false.

2) Your second statement "ISO mounted find, SquashFS image unpacked fine" is also
misleading, if not plainly wrong: "remaster-mount-root" is the place the ISO is
mounted on and not being able to read from there means something is amiss with
the image in almost any possible scenario.
