Custom installation on LAN

We are looking for a solution to share files, using a web interface. Currently this is for internal use, but eventually, this will also be for external uses, and one of our MAJOR requirements is that everything be available through a web browser. The way that Ubuntu One works seems to very well fit our requirements.

The files we are going to share can be rather large files such as video clips, ISO files, or sound recordings. Also, I understand that this system will be able to run in several languages, two of which are the official languages of my country, CANADA.

We need a place where peoples can drop-off files, either using their own credential (AD) or a public place, such as the "shared" folder. And then, external users from all over the world, given proper credentials, will all so need to eitehr retrieve or drop files on this repository.

I am very much into Open Source and Linux, and this project seems to fit very well with our requirements.
