Dependencies of Ubuntu One client

Asked by iGadget

I'm running Ubuntu Studio 9.10 (32 bit) which isn't shipping with Ubuntu One installed. When adding Ubuntu One manually using apt, the client refuses to connect. When starting the client manually through a console, I see this:

matthijs@simba:~$ ubuntuone-client-applet
ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on org.freedesktop.NetworkManager:/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files

Does this mean the Ubuntu One client depends on Network Manager to be installed? If so, why is this (I'd really prefer not to bloath my audio workstation with tools that won't be used), and if it's for a good reason, why isn't Network Manager one of it's dependencies upon installation?

Hi Matthijs,

The Ubunut One client currently depends on NetworkManager and also needs that you use NetworkManager to setup your network connection.
I don't know Ubuntu Studio, but NetworkManager is installed and active by default in Ubuntu.

In the near future this dependency is going to be remove, there is a bug to track this issue, Bug #357395

Thanks
