Using Ubuntu One with non-gnome apps

Asked by Dirk Prusok

I don't don't like Evolution (actually I completely remove it) and refuse to have mono on my machines so Tomboy is not an option. Will there ever be a provision to use/sync Ubuntu One with native KDE applications such as Kontact?

At the last UDS and Grand Canara Summit, this concept was presented and it sounded very exciting. Our goal was to provide the community with tools that could make this happen and I think we have.

The key here will be synchronizing Akonadi's PIM with desktop-couch. Then an Ubuntu One subscriber with desktop-couch can pair and synchronize it with Ubuntu One.

I encourage you to take a look at these sites.

GNote is the C++ port of Tomboy and does not require Mono.

I'm not sure Ubuntu One synchronizes GNote notes, but the two have compatible file formats. I'm unsure if they save in the same place, though. It could be worth a shot.

The notes interface for syncing is public, so anybody can implement it -> http://live.gnome.org/Tomboy/Synchronization/REST

KDE PIM apps are of course all moving in the direction of using akonadi for storage and retrieval. What we are in need of is a set of akonadi resources that can connect to ubuntu one for particular item types. With akonadi resources in place kde apps and others could use akonadi to CRUD any resource types.

Can you help with this problem?
