Why does Ubuntu One keep asking me to authorize my computer and add it to my account?

Asked by Peter DiCrescenzo

I've got the Ubuntu One client installed on Karmic 9.10, 32-bit, Ubuntu Netbook Remix edition; the platform's a Dell Mini 10. So far, I've authenticated this netbook and added it to my Ubuntu One account four times over the past seven days. Why does Ubuntu One keep thinking this is a different machine?

Hi Peter. Sorry to hear you're having problems. This definitely sounds like a bug. A few other users have noticed the same problem. A bug is currently open to track our progress, and the good news is that we're very close to a resolution.

This may be due to some minor issues we've been having with the server every now and then, and have been trying to work through and get completely resolved. Sometimes when connecting, authentication will fail. When auth fails, the client throws away the current token, and attempts to get a new one (as presumably the old one is not valid, since it failed).

There's a recent fix in the 1.1 snapshot, which might help with this issue, depending on whether auth is actually failing, or there is another issue getting masked as failing authentication. The fix was made a bit late for Karmic final, but may be in a stable update soon after.

We're also working on some slight infrastructure to accomdate building stabe snapshots as well as development snapshots, as we do now. These will be available soon, and we'll be updating the web install instructions to point to them by default as well, rather than the beta builds.

I am experiencing either the exact same problem outlined here or something very similar because I have had to authorize my computer like 6 times in the past 2 days. I viewed the bug referenced above (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-servers/+bug/450633) and it says that this is supposed to be fixed, so is this the same bug or not?

Can you help with this problem?
