Totally messed up Ubuntu One

Asked by viva

I managed to totally mess up my Ubuntu One workflow. Now I'm stuck.

It began when trying to delete folders on the webspace. Obviously this is not possible. Deleting those folders on my Computer (I use only one computer with Ubuntu One) didn't affect them on the web space. Then, I tried to do a fresh start deleting the computer tokens in my account profile - there were three of them. As as result, my computer didn't connect to U1 services anymore.

Finally, I tried to reinstall the services on my computer to get the 'Add this computer' message again. Manually deinstalled with the package manager, then followed the installation process on the website. But there was no such message and now I can't connect my computer to U1 again.

So, this shows two things: 1) there really should be a way to delete folders within the web interface (alternatively, give ftp or telnet acces to my webspace) and 2) there should be some way to manually add a computer to my account again.

Overall, I missing an easy way to clean up out-of-sync states. Something like 'replace anything online with the contents of your computer's folder' and vice-versa.

Hi viva,

I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One isn't working properly for you. I'll try to address your questions/comments below:

1) there really should be a way to delete folders within the web interface (alternatively, give ftp or telnet acces to my webspace)
Yes, this is in the works. We are updating the web interface and adding new functionality that will include being able to delete folders.

2) there should be some way to manually add a computer to my account again.
I believe this problem is likely due to an issue we had with the last step in the install process, adding a computer to your account. We released a new client update that should remedy this problem. Can you try to update to this release and see if it fixes the issue of not being prompted to add your computer?

Thank you,

Joshua

Hello Joshua,

Thank you for the quick answer. Indeed, today's update solved the problem regarding the deleted token. My computer was added to Ubuntu One again after clicking on the entry 'Ubuntu One' in the Internet menu.

Still, the folder on my hard disk wasn't synced with the online version but marked as '.conflict'. In order to hava a version of it online and locally, I had to rename it once again. That now makes four folders online where only one is needed. I really see forward to a function that lets the user either delete folders online or force a unidirectional sync of the contents,

Keep up the good work.
