Send file (manually) from terminal

Asked by Anakin Starkiller

I know the normal behaviour would be to put files in the sync folder and then just wait for the daemon to upload to ubuntuone, but I was wondering if it was possible to manually send from the terminal (or from a bash script) a file to ubuntu one (to /My Files, not My Shares).

From the terminal you can copy a file directly to ~/Ubuntu One/My Files.
You can also use the u1sync command to do more specialized syncing, see man u1sync for more information on that option.

Thanks for your answer, but when I put a file in this directory, it must stay there after the sync...and I just want to upload and remove this files from the disk after ;)

So you only want to upload a file to the server, not have it on your pc? We currently don't support that functionality. The Ubuntu One service is centered around synchronizing and sharing files across computers and the cloud.

Hello Joshua. Actually, it is for backup that I wanted to do this. (and the
solution to copy everything in My Files then put symlinks everywhere is not
acceptable in my case). For example, let's say I have a bunch of files of
different sizes and from different folders. I want to create a PGP encrypted
ZIP archive periodically from these files (with cron script), then send this
archive to remote server, then delete it localy. Another solution would be
(with the script) to rsync all the files I want in the My Files folder (a
mirror copy of actual files) and then keep this synchronized with
ubuntuone....But for now, I will continue to upload files manually, I don't
really mind.

By the way, Dropbox don't provide this kind of features either ;)

Thanks for your time ;)

OK, so you want more of a backup functionality, which we do not currently provide. We may offer this functionality in the future.

Can you help with this problem?
