What happens if you exceed your quota/storage/space/size ?

Asked by A. Bram Neijt

I've just exceeded my storage quota for the Free plan by uploading 2 GB of zeros. The upload is very quick as gzip was probably used with the upload and that would bring it down to a few bytes. I only did this to test what would happen if I exceeded my quota.

The web interface now says: 2.9 GB of 2.0 GB Used (143.1%)

What happens next? I've clearly exceeded my quota and I'm storing more then I aught to, yet I'm not seeing any quota enforcement or other messages. Everything just seems to go on like normal. When is what going to happen now?

Hi! We provide a bit of wiggle room around the quota, but will be tightening that up soon. What will happen is that you won't be able to continue using Ubuntu One until you delete some files to make more room, or purchase additional storage. We're working to provide a nice balance between not crippling your account if you temporarily go a bit over, and not giving away bunches of free storage over the quota we agreed to provide.

Can I pay for say, 10Gb or 15Gb of storage, 50Gb seems like a lot for a light user like me!? EVERY MONTH!
