"Shared With Me" subdir: it has 555 permission, not writable. Can i safely change permission to 755? What is the purpose of that directory?

Asked by Fabrizio F

I really don't know if it is a problem or not. The main question is that i am able not able to understand the philosophy of working of ubuntu one,
What is the difference between "MyFiles" and "Shared with me"? Can i add more subdirs undere ~/Ubuntu One?
Is there any user manual (also a draft) to understand how it has to work?

Hi,

Thanks for your question. I'm moving it to the "questions" queue where it can be more readily addressed.

Hi Fabrizio!

"My Files" is where you should put your files. "Shared With Me" is where folders that other users have shared with you show up. I agree that this is confusing, and we've been discussing various options to try and make things simpler or more obvious. We currently don't have any user manual or help system, but we will be creating one. Thanks for your patience, and please do keep pointing out any areas of the system that are confusing, it will help us to make it better for everyone.

And then we all want to know how secure is Ubuntu One? Thanks for clarifying the Shared with Me folder. Ubuntu One could potentially free me from having to carry a USB thumb drive if it is secure and the hardware on which it sits is redundant and robust.
