Tomboy stopped syncing
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with Tomboy 1.2.1. I had been able to sync Tomboy with my UbuntuOne account, but when I tried today I got a synchronization failure message with blank details. In my UbuntuOne preferences, Contacts, File Synchronization and Music Download are all checked (though the only one to have ever worked was File Synchronization). Under devices, it lists dplatt-dell (my laptop). My UbuntuOne account does appear. When I look at the Synchronization tab on Tomboy Preferences, the service is listed in the dropdown menu, but it is grayed out.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with Tomboy notes syncing. Their was a brief outage in the service the other day so make sure they still do not sync before proceeding. It is normal for the service to be greyed out after you set up your settings. You can run Tomboy in debug mode to get more information.
1. Quit Tomboy
2. Applications-
tomboy --debug > ~/tomboy_debug.log
Then try and sync the notes. This should write some, hopefully, useful info to a file tomboy_debug.log in your $HOME. You can also just open Tomboy with tomboy --debug and have it print to the Terminal instead of a file.
Last time I had an issue with syncing my notes I had to reauthorize Tomboy.
1. Open Tomboy Preferences
2. Select Synchronisation Tab and click 'Clear'
3. Select Tomboy Web from the Service drop down list
4. Set the Server text input field to https:/
5. Click on the Connect to Server button
6. Your browser should open a login page
7. Either login with your existing Ubuntu One/Launchpad login
8. Add your computer to your Ubuntu One account
NOTE: Even though you may have done this already for setting up file sync you need to do this again for Tomboy. It's helpful to put "Tomboy" in the name in order to identify this entry as being for notes sync.
9. On success, you will receive a message "Successfully authorized your computer with Ubuntu One's Tomboy sync"
10. Return to Tomboy"
11. Click the Save button in the preferences dialog
12. When prompted if you want to synchronize your notes now, click the Yes button
NOTE: If you do this you might run into an issue where some of the notes conflict. I find it best to select rename old note and then go back and look at each conflicting note to determine which one I want.
thank you,

Without previously launching tomboy, I opened a terminal and ran:
tomboy --debug
However this launched tomboy with no GUI appearing. I executed my System Monitor 2.28.0 applet and confirmed that Tomboy was running, but was sleeping. So I was unable to collect debugging information on the sync process.
I went ahead and cleared the synchronization settings and reconfigured sync as described above. I did run into the notes conflict issue, and I simply chose override all.
When syncing was complete, I went to my UbuntuOne notes page, and I did see my old and new notes on my UbuntuOne account, at least with respect to content. However I seem to have lost some behavior. What I mean by this is that when I am running the Tomboy app on my laptop, all the notes are of course hyperlinked together. However after completing the sync, I tried clicking on what should have been a hyperlinked term at the UbuntuOne site, and the notes behave as though there are no links. Its all plain text. Which means that I can't navigate them like I do on my laptop. I could have sworn that previously the links were active at UbuntuOne.

I have continued exploring my notes at UbuntuOne. It seems to be the case that the old notes which had been synced previous to the problem developing still retain hyperlinks. However the new notes that I was unable to sync yesterday, but which have since appeared at the UbuntuOne site after following the instructions above no longer have active hyperlinks.

Even though I was not able to access the Tomboy GUI and execute sync in debug mode, I did capture the debug output that was generated just from launching it. Here it is:
