HTC Desire Sync

Asked by pst007x

Hi, is it possible to sync with the HTC Desire (it is not currently in the list)

I wonder if anyone has tried an alternative method.

I am currently using Google for syncing but wish to move to Ubuntu. (Google tech is a nightmare!)

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

You can sync by installing the Funambol application. I don't know if desire is Android 2.0+, but that's the minimum requirement for Funambol.
When prompted to select a device, just select "other", and get the necessary credentials.

I have just gone through this process on a HTC Desire by going to the Android market searching for Funambol and installing it - I did not use the U1 method but had selected phone type as other.

A few weeks ago the Funambol client did not support the HTC Sense UI and the additional address books that makes use of (different from standard Android). Tried it again few days ago and upon first execution the Funambol client now prompts the user to import from HTC Sense address books and then itself creates its own address book. It then happily uploads your contacts to U1 and carries on successfully synchronising them.

The next problem though is as Funambol client creates a new address book, when you are using the phone for day-to-day tasks (email, sms, calls etc) HTC Sense picks up and includes the Funambol address book when searching for contacts. This causes the contacts to be duplicated in the search tasks which is a royal pain. I have not had the time to revisit the Funambol client settings to see if its address book can be hidden but perhaps you can find a way either in Funambol or HTC Sense to prevent this.

I must state though no data is duplicated in any of the phone address books, nor U1 or Google Mail.

I have also just gone through the process on HTC Desire, (Funambol, selecting "other" phone type in UbuntuOne). Had no problems.

The good news is the duplication 'royal pain' Lee mentioned above is very easy to fix. Go into your contacts list (or "People"), then hit Menu and select View. Then just choose the contact list(s) you actually want to use/see. You can easily turn of the Funambol list if you wish, or you can turn off all the others (which I think makes much more sense).

Hope that helps!
