Sync incomplete, but UbuntuOne claims it is

Asked by Albrecht Fink

So far Ubuntu One has worked fine - I have about 450MB of files in my Ubuntu One folder and use it as a continuous backup of my work, so new files will be added most days.
The last three days, however, it stopped working properly.
While the Ubuntu One client claims that synchronisation is complete, new files are no longer uploaded - the worst part is that in nautilus the files are shown as successfully synced (with the green tick), but they don't appear in my online storage, nor on the machine I want them to be synced to.
To complicate matters I have to say that this does not seem to be the case for some documents (all I add are .odt documents), for I created a new folder with a document in it, which was synced - other new documents in existing folders are ignored.

What can I do to get all files synced, so as to have an efficient backup/sync of my files?
I have restarted the client many times, the problem seems to be that it sees the files as already synced...

Hi Albrecht,

I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One isn't working properly for you. We are currently experiencing slow performance with our file sync service. This should not result in files on your desktop showing they are synchronized (with the green check mark). What version of Ubuntu are you using? There were some issues with file emblems (green check marks) not displaying properly in Ubuntu 9.10 but should have been fixed in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. If you are using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS can you do the following to provide debug logs?

1. Run the following from a terminal session: echo -e "[logging]\nlevel = DEBUG" > ~/.config/ubuntuone/logging.conf; sudo sed -i 's/LOG_LEVEL = logging.INFO/LOG_LEVEL = logging.DEBUG/' /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ubuntuone/oauthdesktop/logger.py; u1sdtool -q; u1sdtool -c

2. File a bug at: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client/+filebug

3. Run this command, replacing ###### with the bug number from the step above: apport-collect -p ubuntuone-client ######

4. Run this command from a terminal session: tar cjf ~/u1logs.tar.bz2 ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log

5. Attach ~/u1logs.tar.bz2 to the bug report

Thank you,

Joshua

Hi Joshua,

the problem seems to have solved itself! First the Ubuntu One client recognised that certain files were not yet synchronised, so for the last couple of days it kept saying 'synchronisation in progress', but as you said the servers were very slow, so it took a few days to sync...
At the end everything is fine,
thanks for your help - In case the strange behaviour of falsely showing files as synced reoccurs , I shall post the debug logs, or would it be of any help now that it seems to work?
