How to extract Contact Data?

Asked by AndyP

Hi, I have had to revert back from 9.10 to 9.04 due to some issues in 9.10 preventing my setup functioning (printing remotely issues in 9.10) and now I want to sync my U1 with the Evolution version that came with 9.04. The instructions for installation on 9.04 seem to work but I cannot access U1 from either 9.04 or Evolution (2.26 installed not 2.28 as in 9.10). No couchdb contacts function in add contacts, nothing to sync with it seems & no file access. I need to extract all my contact data either on Jaunty or onto a Windows PC. Please can someone let me know how to do this?

Hi Andy,

Contacts sync is only supported in 9.10 and higher. If your contacts synchronized when you were using 9.10, then they should be accessible via the web UI at https://one.ubuntu.com/contacts

Thank you,

Joshua

Hi thanks for the answer, I can access the contacts through the web but that's not what I'm trying to do. I'm looking to extract the contacts, like an export to file or something. That is so I can import them elsewhere. From the web there seems to be no export facility and re-typing them one by one is not good. If I can export as a file I can then manipulate etc.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

Unfortunately, we don't have a way to bulk export contacts from the web UI, which is what you would need in order to export your contacts at this point. I will follow up with our developers who are most familiar with the contacts portion of our service and see if there is something else you might be able to do to get your contacts exported from the service.

Thank you,

Joshua

Hi Andy,

I checked on this and there isn't a way to do this right now. You can try our phone sync service (strange as that might sound) that provides a way to sync contacts with Thunderbird. Check out the following page on phone sync, along with links to the Thunderbird plugin: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/PhoneSync/

Thank you,

Joshua
