is there a way to configure ubuntuone to not delete immediately?

Asked by Recondite Dave

I am using UbuntuOne for backups. I am concerned that when files get deleted from my local Ubuntu One folder, it immediately deletes them from my online folder. I would like to configure it so that if the files get deleted locally, I would still be able to access them online. In other words, configure my account so new files get added (uploaded) immediately, but deleted files do not get deleted (from the online account) for a specified period of time (a week or a month), or until I specifically go online and delete them, so that I can recover them in the event of an accidental deletion or file removal.

Also (I know this is asking much), but is there a way to keep versions of modified files, so that if a file gets corrupted I can go back and get an earlier version?

(Yeah, I would like to use Ubuntu One like a scaled down Mac's Time Machine)

Hi!

No, it doesn't currently work like this and there is no chance of this being changed in Ubuntu 10.04.

We are currently discussing adding an undelete feature on the web site in 10.10 release, but not doing versioning.

For backups, I recommend https://edge.launchpad.net/deja-dup

As you noticed, Ubuntu One is more about keeping all your computers in sync, not about keeping an old (out-of-sync) copy of your files, and a backup is exactly this. Backups are valuable, but it's just not what Ubuntu One provides right now.

Can you help with this problem?
